Studio Afuera aims to showcase, educate and empower those wishing to learn about
other cultures, through the medium of design. We take influence from music, food, arts and clothing to create heritage inspired pieces that celebrate identity. The first collection is inspired by the vibrant Peruvian culture as witnessed in the wonderful crowded markets of Lima and throughout Peru. Whether it’s the aromas, the chromaticity, the majestic euphony, or the cuisine, these markets create a sensory overload, that we have translated into our pieces.
Studio Afuera Presents “Barranco, Mi Amor” – A Tribute to Home, Captured by Kevin Roman
Lima, Peru – Studio Afuera, the slow fashion brand dedicated to preserving heritage through contemporary design, unveils its latest campaign, “Barranco, Mi Amor,” a visual homage to one of Lima’s most emblematic neighborhoods. Shot by Kevin Roman, the campaign blends modern aesthetics with the nostalgia of traditional family portraiture, reinterpreting the way we document identity, heritage, and belonging.
The shoot takes place in Barranco, Lima’s artistic and cultural heart, where Studio Afuera co-founder Mariella Ruiz de Sonmocurcio grew up. Featuring model Jahaira Arana, the images come to life in locations deeply woven into the community’s daily rhythm—La Espiga del Pan, a neighborhood institution where locals gather for the best empanadas, and Mercado El Capullito, a hidden gem offering everything from fresh ceviche to meticulous tailoring.
By juxtaposing historical references to old family portraits with contemporary styling, Kevin Roman sought to bridge past and present, capturing the essence of Barranco as a place where tradition and modernity coexist. The collection, set against textured walls, sunlit passageways, and familiar neighborhood spots, reflects Studio Afuera’s ethos—design as a vessel for storytelling, cultural memory, and the intimate details that shape identity.
This collection also marks the introduction of new headbands made from outgoing prints, reinforcing Studio Afuera’s commitment to sustainability and creative reuse. These unique accessories bring a fresh twist to the brand’s designs while honoring past collections.
